Community of Resilience Educators
CORE is a Community of Practice hosted by the NC Center for Resilience & Learning, where Fellows collaborate, drive meaningful school change, receive personalized coaching, and continuously refine their practice.
This yearlong leadership journey equips educators to become trauma-informed change agents.
As Fellows, participants design and lead a school-based CORE Change Project tailored to the unique strengths and needs of their community. Alongside educators from across North Carolina, Fellows join Communities of Practice, track their impact, and build practical tools that empower both their schools and future leaders.
Our Why
As we designed CORE, we asked ourselves one guiding question:
How do we move beyond professional development and create an experience that equips educators to lead meaningful, sustainable change in their schools?
The answer led us to design CORE as a leadership experience where Fellows learn alongside one another, implement meaningful change within their schools, and strengthen trauma-informed systems through collaboration, coaching, and continuous improvement.
Our Vision
We envision a statewide network of trauma-informed leaders who strengthen school culture by leading with empathy, building relationships, and creating sustainable systems that improve outcomes for students, educators, and families.
Our Mission
To cultivate trauma-informed leaders through a Community of Practice where educators use empathy, collaborative design, and continuous improvement to strengthen relationships, transform systems, and build resilient schools.
Our Values
At the Center for Resilience & Learning, we are firmly committed to our core values: trust, hope, commitment, growth, and partnership. These values not only establish a standard for our actions but also guide our relationships with partners. They serve as the foundation, compass, and cultural framework of the Center for Resilience and Learning.

The CORE Experience
As a CORE Collaborative Fellow, you will become a trauma-informed leader who designs, implements, and leads one meaningful change initiative within your school. Every experience is intentionally built around one continuous learning cycle:
Each Leadership Institute and Community of Practice moves your project forward while providing opportunities to receive coaching, reflect on your progress, and collaborate with fellow educators from across North Carolina.
The CORE Promise
Our promise is that together, we are building resilient schools where every student, every educator, and every family can thrive.
