June 2024 School of the Month: End of Year Celebrations & Teacher Appreciation!

January 6, 2025 by Resilience & Learning

We are incredibly grateful for the amazing educators who welcome our Center Coaches every year. We always look forward to celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week and our end-of-year meetings and parties with you. Instead of our usual School of the Month feature, we would love to showcase some of the highlights from the events in May and June. We will pair each picture with a quote from our Resilience Team Focus Groups.

Eulanda Thorne encouraged her schools to celebrate their staff during MayHere are some examples of what each school did: New staff t-shirts, Catered meals, personalized gifts, staff wellness lounge supplies
“It puts us all in a growth mindset. How can we help and support students in ‘moving past their trauma’ rather than using it as an excuse?” – Resilience Team member
Brian Randall planned a Hip-Hop class for the Resilience Team at Hall Fletcher Elementary! The group had a fabulous time together.
Stacey Craig set up a “self-care snack bar” for teachers at Greene County Middle School to show Teacher Appreciation during the last academic push of the school year.Snacks were specially selected to offer various sensory experiences that can help us feel calmer and more awake, such as crunchy and chewy textures, peppermint oil, cold and fizz.Staff were encouraged to choose snacks based on taste preference and whether they needed to feel calmer or more awake. This offers a variety of ways to support and encourage staff to take care of their own needs while in a profession that is constantly focused on the needs of others.
“Relationships established with students has been beneficial; it has helped address attendance and academics” – Resilience Team member
Becky Stern celebrated with the entire staff of Bragg Street Academy (Resilience Team) with an end-of-the-year meal from a local favorite: San Felipe!

Ervin Jones planned an End of Year celeberation for all ECPPS educators. They celebrated with food, music, games, and fellowship! Staff stated they are looking forward to next year’s celebration. A member of the Resilience Team said “This was one of the most rewarding events to cap off a tough year.”
“Resilience has caused me to be more honest about my energy and what I can handle and knowing how to deal with that and not be ashamed of that.”– Resilience Team member
Angela Mendell served breakfast to schools in Columbus County during Teacher Appreciation Week. She also served Bladen County schools lunch to celebrate their wonderful teachers and staff!Acme Delco Elementary, Nakina Middle, and W H Knuckles Elementary were given the Morning Meeting Books for each grade level to prepare for implementing Morning Meetings in the upcoming school year.

Michelle Harris Jefferson had an incredible time celebrating the end of the school year with a fun-filled pizza party at Warren County High School! This event marked the successful completion of their first year in our Trauma and Resilience Program. We’re proud of Warren County High School’s dedication and commitment to building a supportive and resilient community. Here’s to many more successful years ahead!
“Some students have realized the impact of putting their screen down and taking a walk. It’s good for their mental health, and they realize this. We started doing Wednesday Wellness Walks.”– Resilience Team member
